Rushing to See

Nicki sat on her bed shaking uncontrollable. She was hurting badly and she couldn’t take it. She didn’t want what had occurred today to have a big effect on her but it did. When she woke up this morning and was getting ready for school, she didn’t think her and Safaree would have such an argument. She had tried calling him but his phone was going straight to voicemail. Nicki got up to go to the bathroom when her cell began to vibrate. She played it no mind thinking it was someone she didn’t want to talk to. She continued to the bathroom.

Jelani walked into the house reading the mail. He walked toward the kitchen to get a soda. He kicked his work boots in the living room, and took off his jacket. Jelani pressed the button on the answering machine to hear the messages that they missed. As they were playing, he raided the fridge, and the cabinets. He came to a complete halt when he heard movement from upstairs. When he stopped moving he heard it stop. When Jelani took a few more steps the noise continued, and when he stopped so did the noise. He put the food down on the counter, and walked toward the stairs. He grabbed one of his bats. He used to play baseball in high school, but after he graduated two years ago he kept one of his bats. He began walking up the stairs slowly. He wounded the bat over his shoulder, and walked up the stairs.

“Whoever this person is is damn sure about to get it.” Jelani said creeping up the rest of the way.

Nicki came out the bathroom with a wash cloth wiping her mouth. She just threw up, and was feeling a little light headed. She pulled back her cover, and got in her bed. Nicki felt her phone vibrating again, and then it stopped. About 15 seconds later it started again. Nicki picked it up to see a text from Tyesha.

T Boogie – Nicki, Get to Kings County Hospital. Safaree is there.

G-Nika – I’m on my way.

Just as Nicki sent that text message Jelani busted threw her bedroom door swinging the bat. Nicki looked at him like he was stupid.

“What are you doing fool!?!” Nicki said putting on her shoes. Jelani stood there looking around the room, out of breath.

“What are you doing here?”

“Look I’ll explain later. Right now I have to get to Kings C. Hospital. Let’s go!” Nicki said walking out of the room. Jelani stood there for a second trying to catch his breath. Nicki walked back in and grabbed his ear.

“I said LETS GO!!” She said pulling him out of her room, down the stairs.

 

In The Car

Nicki was a nervous wreck, and shaking. She didn’t know what had happened with Safaree, and she wanted to know as soon as possible. Jelani was rapping some Ja-Rule song, and it was really getting on Nicki’s nerves at this moment.

“SHUT UP JAY!!” She yelled turning the radio down. Jelani looked at her with his eyebrow raised.

“Who are you….”

“I’m talking to you fool! Now drive faster.”

“I can’t Onika this traffic is no joke right now. Calm down. What are we going to the hospital for anyway?”

“Safaree is out there?”

“Do you know what happened?” Nicki didn’t answer and Jelani knew what that meant.

“Spill Onika.”

“Me and him had a argument today. He wanted me to be his girlfriend and I said no. He didn’t take it so well.” Jelani laughed at Nicki. But she didn’t find anything funny.

“What are you laughing at?” After wiping tears from his eyes Jelani spoke up.

"You think he was sent to the hospital for you saying no to him? Nicki you aint all that!" Jelani said laughing. Nicki drew her hand back and punched Jelani in the chest. He grabbed the spot she hit, but continued to laugh hard.

"I'm serious Jelani. I think that is what did it."

"Well why did you say no?"

"Well I just broke up with Rashad, and I dont want to hurt Safaree because I'm not fully over that. I love Safaree so much Jay, I do."

"Do you want to be with him sis?"

"Yes I do but....."

"There is no 'buts' when it comes to love. When you love someone you do what you can to be with them. You forget about yourself for the other person. I been knew that Safaree had feelings for you. And I know deep down in you Sis you have feelings for him too."

"I do, but..."

"Stop with the buts Nicki. If you love him, then tell him. You two can take it slow if you need to. I mean look at me and Aaliyah. Me and her started off as best friends, and we have been dating for two years now going on three." Jelani said looking at his sister.

"Okay Jay. I will talk to Safaree about it later."

"Why not now?" Jelani said stopping. Nicki looked to see why they had stopped and it was because they had made it to the hospital.

"Go let him know you care, and you are still here." Nicki leaned over to Jelani and kissed him on the cheek.

"You get on my last nerve with your smelly feet, and stinky colonge but I love you Jay."

"I dont know whether to take that as a compliment but whatever. Love you too Onika. Now go!" Nicki got out of the car and raced up toward the entry doors. Jelani pulled off to go find a park.

When Nicki turned the corner she saw all of Safaree's friends and her's. She walked up to them. Onika go to room 435. He is in there." Safaree's friend Jayvon said before Nicki could even asked. She hugged him, and touched her friends hands. She took off down the hallway and looked from door to door for 435. When she found it at the end, Nicki stood in front of it. She was scared to walk in but she took a deep breath and walked straight in.

Safaree's sisters, and mother was sitting in chairs right beside the bed. Kelly, Safaree's youngest sister saw Nicki walk in first.

"NICKI!!!" She said running to her. Nicki hugged the fourteen year old girl until she felt the girl snatched away.

"Dont you dare hug her. She isnt family, and she is the reason we are here!" Denise, Safaree's oldest sister said pulling Kelly from Nicki. Instead of Nicki saying anything she just rolled her eyes. Safaree's mom got up and walked over to them.

"Denise STOP!"

"No Momma! She isnt nothing! I'm sick of her, she is the reason that Safaree acts so weird toward us. She is the reason that he doesnt want to hang out with us!"

"No she isnt! Denise shut up!!" Kelly said.

"I will not shut up because its the truth!!!" Denise yelled. Safaree woke up out of his nap to the yelling and heard everyone aruging.

"You need to leave out of our life! We dont need you! And Safaree dont need you!" Nicki couldnt take anymore stress and fussing. She looked at Safaree and saw him staring at her. She just looked in his eyes, and spoke. But for some reason Safaree couldnt understand her. Denise was still yelling and Nicki turned red in the face. She walked over to the door.

"WAIT!!!! NICKI!!!!" Safaree yelled as she walked out of the door. Denise walked over to the door and locked it.

"You dont need her no way little bro." Kelly and Safaree's mom just looked at Denise like she was crazy. Safaree just sat back, and shook his head. He would deal with Nicki later. He was just glad that she came to see how he was.

Nicki walked down the hallway back to the waiting room. Tears was spilling out of her eyes. Her nose was red and her bottom lip was quivering. A couple minutes later she made it back to where everyone was. She didnt even stop.

"Jelani! Lets get the hell out of here!" Nicki said walking past him.

"Nicki..." He said getting up slowly.

"NOW!!" She screamed while crying, and walking out of the hospital doors. Jelani looked over at everyone. He dapped the guys, and hugged the girls. Tyesha told him that she would be over later to see Nicki. He told her okay and walked out of the hospital after Nicki.

"I have to find out what happened." Jelani said walking down the stairs so he could show Nicki where the car was.
